What you Need to Know before installing a New Sink

We recommend against using Plumber’s putty, although it’s been the standard for so long. It may crack as the clay dries out with time, causing leaks.

Pure, 100 % silicone sealants work better for undermount sink installations, thanks to their good adhesive properties. They’re also designed for resilient flexibility.

Unlike Plumber’s putty, silicone sealants won’t fail quickly.

3. Install the new faucet before installing the sink.

Many newbies tend to install the sink first before installing the faucet. To save you the hassle, mount the faucet to the sink first, along with all its accessories. The mounting nuts will be more accessible.

To ensure a proper seal, mount the faucet with silicone. This keeps the faucet from moving around in case the nuts loosen.

4. Different sinks have a different number of holes for the faucet and its accessories

If you’re using a single-handle faucet, a sink with one hole works fine. But it’s impossible to add another hole if your sink has too few holes.

We suggest choosing the faucet and its accessories first, then buying a sink with matching holes.

5. Remove old caulk so the new sink sits properly.

New caulk doesn’t stick to the old one, so it’s important to completely remove the old caulk first. It will keep moisture from seeping into areas where you don’t want it.

6. Flush the supply lines to clear any sediment

Plumbing work may release sediment in the pipes. This may clog your new faucet, so it’s important to flush it before attaching the lines to the faucet.

7. Have all materials and tools ready before you begin working to avoid last-minute shopping trips.
