The thermostatic expansion valve (TEV) plays an important role in the operation of your HVAC system. An adjustable restrictor regulating the amount of refrigerant liquid that’s injected into the evaporator, the TEV is situated between the condenser and the evaporator.
Over time, the valve may fail internally. Problems also occur due to a blocked inlet screen and contaminants entering the valve. It may overheat and fail due to positioning issues as well.

- Decrease in cooling performance
Your AC system’s poor cooling performance may indicate a problem with the thermostatic expansion valve, but it can also be due to a number of things: improperly sized units, dirty air filters, clogged condenser coils, blower fan issues, and more.
